    IMPORTANT: To study or work at KNAU, you must apply for a Student or Work visa. Do not apply for a Tourist, Private, or Religious visa, as such visa types cannot be extended and do not allow for study or employment.

    To obtain an official invitation letter, all foreign students and faculty members must contact the KNAU International Relations Department.

Upon arrival in the Kyrgyz Republic, all foreign citizens and stateless persons, except those from countries listed in the official Exemption List (List of foreign states and periods of exemption from registration in the authorized state bodies or hotels), are required to register at their place of residence within 5 working days of entering the country.

IMPORTANT: Foreign students must contact the KNAU International Relations Department within two (2) days after arrival in Bishkek to confirm their student status and receive detailed registration instructions.

Documents Required for Registration:

  • Valid passport and a copy of the passport;
  • Payment receipt for the state fee;
  • Notarized statement from the owner of the apartment where the student resides. (If the student lives in a university dormitory, the university handles the registration.)

Extension of Student Visa and Registration

Since extending a student visa is a lengthy process, you must apply for an extension at least 30 days before the visa expires by submitting your passport and valid visa to the International Relations Department at KNAU. Upon approval, students will receive a “Student Visa” valid for a period of up to 1 academic year, with the possibility of annual renewal for a total duration not exceeding 5 years or the official length of their academic program.

Documents Required for Visa Application:

  • Valid international passport;
  • University-issued visa support letter;
  • A copy of the individual agreement/contract between the student and KNAU;
  • One photo in JPG format;
  • Certificate of enrollment from the university.

Visa and registration fees must be paid through an official representative.
Processing fees for visa extensions are determined by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, calculated in Kyrgyz soms, and may vary depending on the time of payment and the applicant’s country of origin. You can view current pricing and application options here: https://www.e.visa.e-gov.kg/

IMPORTANT:

  • You must register your arrival each time you enter the Kyrgyz Republic;
  • Registration must be renewed with every new visa issuance;
  • Tourist, religious, and private visas cannot be extended.

KNAU does not assist in extending visas for students who have graduated, those who are on academic leave, or those who have been expelled from the university.

Medical insurance is a system of measures for the social protection of citizens in the Kyrgyz Republic, ensuring access to quality medical, preventive, and other services.

The procedure for medical insurance of foreign citizens is approved by the Resolutions of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic dated April 21, 2003 No. 85, July 15, 2003 No. 149, December 28, 2006 No. 208, February 17, 2009 No. 52, August 22, 2020 No. 142, March 29, 2023 No. 72.

The acquisition of a Compulsory Medical Insurance Policy grants foreign citizens and stateless persons the status of an insured person and the right to receive medical services under the implemented state programs within the compulsory medical insurance system.

What assistance does it include?

  • Doctor’s appointment and consultation;
  • Medical procedures if necessary;
  • 11 types of basic laboratory tests, diagnostic tests (ECG) upon referral from a specialist;
  • Emergency medical care.

What documents are required to obtain insurance?

  • Passport (identity document);
  • Certificate from the local area representative or house committee confirming residence at the given address.

Where to obtain insurance?
Foreign students residing in Bishkek must obtain insurance at the address: Mederova Street 42.
Tel: +996 (312) 548737, +996 (312) 543231.

Cost of insurance:
Medical insurance policy for six months costs 5,955 KGS; for one year — 11,910 KGS.

What if the visa expired on a weekend and the person was unable to renew it on time?

It should be noted that it is best to prepare documents in advance on official reception days, at least 10 days before the visa expiration date, since this period is required for consideration of the extension or refusal. In the case of an unplanned non-working day on the date the foreign citizen came to submit the application, this is considered a circumstance that excludes administrative responsibility — i.e., the person became a violator due to reasons beyond their control.

What documents must a foreign citizen present if stopped on the street by a police officer (PPS)?

Foreign citizens or stateless persons residing in the Kyrgyz Republic must have the following documents:

  • A valid identity document;
  • Visa;
  • Registration (residency permit).
  • Students are required to attend all classes scheduled;
  • Exams and tests must be passed according to the session schedule;
  • Expulsion of students for academic failure is carried out in accordance with the order of the university rector.
