The History of K. I. Skryabin Kyrgyz National Agrarian University:
History of education of our University dates back to 30s of the last century when the transformation of Kyrgyzstan was in progress. Despite turbulent political events of those years, Yusup Abdrakhmanov paid much attention to the establishment and development of agriculture. It was very hard for the young republic at that time. The number of farm animals sharply decreased, the natural increase barely met the needs of the farmers themselves. In such situation, there was a need for a scientifically sound solution of a set of problems related to agricultural production. Educated personnel were needed. This was the basis for the organization of the Zooveterinary Institute, designed to train highly educated specialists.
The organization took 2 years from the date of publication of the decision of the Board of People’s Commissariat of the Kirghiz ASSR on January 30, 1931 “On the organization of the Zoovetinstitute”.
This decision was implemented in January 30, 1933 and that was practically the day of foundation of the Zooveterinary Institute. The first intake of students was 53 people.
Further development of agriculture, especially the branches of crop and livestock, required an urgent solution to the problem of increasing the productivity of the fields and farms, which could only be solved by scientific agronomists. Thus, in 1938 the Faculty of Agronomy was opened to train specialists – agronomists in fodder production, and in the same year the Zooveterinary Institute was renamed the Kyrgyz Agricultural Institute.
The Institute developed and improved as a scientific and educational institution. Continuous development of the national economy of the republic required training of new specialists: engineers’ hydromeliorators and agricultural mechanics. In this connection the Faculty of Hydro amelioration was established in 1949 and the Faculty of Agricultural Mechanization in 1952.
The intensive development of the agro-industrial complex has determined the economic approach to solving the issues of effective agricultural development. Thus, the need to train agricultural economists became urgent and the Faculty of Economics opened in 1970 was responsible for their graduation. Today the Faculty of Economics and Business is the biggest one at the University and trains economists, managers, marketing experts, auditors, financiers, bankers for agricultural sector of economy.
For 85 years the glorious way of the University has been passed. More than 60 thousand highly qualified specialists have been trained for the agroindustrial complex. Among the graduates we are very proud to call Ch. Aitmatov – the national writer of world renown, Lenin and State Prizes winner, academician, graduate of zootechnical faculty. Many of the graduates became Heroes of Labor, and T. Akmatov twice Hero of Labor.
