22-October-2025 at the Library of the Kyrgyz National Agrarian University (KNAU), the final conference of the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN) project titled: “Promotion of Integrated Pest Management among Private Agricultural Companies in the Kyrgyz Republic” took place.
Integrated Pest Management (IPM) represents a comprehensive approach to combating pests and diseases that combines agrotechnical, biological, chemical, and other methods. The main goal of IPM is not only to prevent crop damage but also to minimize the negative impact on the environment. This is achieved by prioritizing the use of the most ecological methods, with pesticides being applied only in case of urgent necessity.
The conference was attended by 85 people, including KNAU faculty, heads and specialists of farming enterprises, and students of the Faculty of Agronomy and Forestry.
The event featured presentations on the results of student training and field studies on IPM issues. Speakers at the plenary session—scientists, farmers, and students—emphasized the importance of combining theoretical knowledge with practical field assignments.
Specialists particularly noted the necessity of transitioning to integrated protection methods instead of traditional (exclusively chemical) plant protection. In this process, a key role is assigned to scientific research on IPM and training farmers in new ecological technologies.
